Kristie Sundeen is the U.S. InVigor Canola Sales Lead and a field sales representative for Bayer CropScience in northern North Dakota. She is a graduate of University of Minnesota-Crookston with a B.S. in Agricultural Business and an A.A. in Agronomy.
Canola Adapting to Market Demands
Nolan Friesen, Bunge Canada

Nolan is the Grain Manager for Bunge in Altona, Manitoba, a canola processing plant buying directly from the producer. He has worked for Bunge for 1½ years and in the ag industry for over 10 years. He has spent most of that time working directly with producers in Western Canada and the Northern USA.

Zachary Schaefer, CHS

Zachary is a Grain Origination Manager for CHS. He graduated from Mayville State in 2010 with a B.S. in Business Administration. He worked at the Osnabrock Farmers Co-op Elevator from 2010-2013 and was employed with Northstar Agri-Industries from 2013 until its buyout.

Dave Grafstrom, Univ. of Minnesota - Ext. - Roseau, MN
Dave is the Minnesota Canola Production Centre site agronomist. He has a B.S. in Agronomy from UM and Ph.D. from NDSU. He worked for BASF for 14 years in research, technical service, and market development. He has worked for Northland College as a Farm Business Management Instructor.

Madeleine Smith, Univ. of Minnesota - Crookston, MN
Madeleine is the University of Minnesota Extension Plant Pathologist for small grains and canola. Her mission is to develop research programs which apply innovative science to address disease issues in small grains and canola and disseminate the latest research information through education programs.

Frayne Olson, North Dakota State University - Fargo, ND
Frayne is a Crops Economist/Marketing Specialist at NDSU. He conducts educational programs and research in crop marketing and market analysis, crop contracting, and risk management. He has a Ph.D. in Agricultural Economics from the University of Missouri, and his M.S. and B.S. from NDSU.
1:00 p.m. MDA Regulation Update - Neonicotinoid Rule
Gregg Regimbal, Minnesota Dept of Agriculture - St. Paul, MN

Gregg manages the MDA’s Pesticide Non-Point Section, responsible for registration and non-point pesticide activities. They work to support pollinators in the state, including conducting a Special Registration Review for neonicotinoid insecticides and implementing action steps related to the review.

Dan Fabian, Minnesota Legislator - Roseau, MN
Dan is the elected representative for Minnesota House District 1A. Prior to being elected, he was a teacher at Roseau High School for 36 years. He also served as a crop insurance adjuster, and the Pro Shop Manager of Oak Crest Golf Course.

Jim Johnson, Star Specialty Seed - Fargo, ND
Jim is President of Star Specialty Seed in Fargo, ND. He received his M.S. from SDSU in Agronomy/Plant Breeding. He has 25+ years of expertise in the seed industry, working with major ag companies (e.g., Syngenta, Monsanto, Cargill, Pioneer, DuPont, Advanta, Interstate Seed).

Matt Fischer, Board of Water & Soil Resources - Bemidji, MN

Matt is a conservationist for the Minnesota Board of Water and Soil Resources (BWSR). BWSR implements the state’s soil and water conservation policy, comprehensive local water management, and the Wetland Conservation Act as it relates to the 41.7 million acres of private land in Minnesota.

Duane Voy is a manager with RMA in St Paul, MN, and has been active in agriculture and risk management for nearly 30 years. He received a B.S. in Agronomy and International Agriculture from Iowa State University and is a Project Management Professional (PMP) in good standing.

Travis Messer, Plains Grain & Agronomy - Enderlin, ND
Travis is a consultant, agronomist, and precision ag specialist with Plains Grain & Agronomy (PGAg). He graduated from NDSU with a double major in crop and weed sciences and ag business. He has been with PGAg since 2005.
